Accessories

The application area of the Power Choke Tester DPG10 series includes small SMD components – the size of a finger nail – to large-scale chokes for energy technology uses, weighing more than 1000 kilograms. This implies that on one hand thin wires, measuring less than 0.5 mm in diameter, are used and on the other hand massive conductor rails up to 20 or 30 mm thick must be connected. The use of four-terminal sensing (Kelvin sensing) is mandatory; otherwise erroneous test results are unavoidable.

The standard cable set with all necessary cables for the operation is of course part of the delivery. The test leads for the four terminal connection to the device under test comprise a special cable for very high test current and a separate cable for the sense line. They are 0.6 m long. The alligator clips are laid out to accept wires up to approximately 20 mm in diameter.

A variety of test leads to meet the different applications are available as optional accessories. Upon request, we assemble customer-specific individual test leads.

PLEASE NOTE: All test leads with 4mm connector can be connected also to the 6 mm sockets of the devices! The test leads with 6mm connector can be connected only to 6 mm sockets.

a) Kelvin Test Leads

Kelvin clips make the connection of the device under test much easier since the four-terminal sensing can be realised with only 2 clips. Both jaws of the clip are insulated against each other. One jaw carries the measurement current and the other is used as sensing terminal.

The design of our Kelvin test leads is optimised since the uncertainties during the measurement – caused by the inductive coupling between the force lines and the sense lines – are minimised. Therefore, standard Kelvin test leads should not be used even if they are very massive!

Kelvin test leads for 3-Phase Extension Unit (KK31-6):

  • Length: approx. 1,5 m
  • Clampable wire diameter: approx. up to 35 mm
  • Max. measuring current: up to 5 kA
  • Avoid use when inductance is < 30 µH (uncertainty will increase)
  • Connector: 6 mm
  • Part number: KK31-6

b) Extra long Test Leads

For measuring objects that cannot be placed next to the measurement device due to their size or weight, a set of extra long test leads is available. This cable set also provides the opportunity to connect measuring objects with connecting points spaced far apart.

Use of the extra long cable set is only recommended if they are really necessary, since measuring inaccuracies may increase with very small inductance values.

Test Lead Set length 2m (KL11-4):

  • Length: approx. 2 m
  • Clampable wire diameter: approx. up to 20 mm
  • Max. measuring current: up to 1500 A
  • Avoid use when inductance is < 30 µH (uncertainty will increase)
  • Connector: 4 mm
  • Part number: KL11-4

Test Lead Set length 2m (KL11-6)

  • Length: approx. 2 m
  • Clampable wire diameter: approx. up to 20 mm
  • Max. measuring current: up to 1500 A
  • Avoid use when inductance is < 30 µH (uncertainty will increase)
  • Connector: 6 mm
  • Part number: KL11-6
