><p>12\/2025<\/p>\n<p>Our cover story this year in the renowned trade journal &#8220;Bodo&#8217;s Power Systems&#8221;, which specializes in power electronics, focuses, among other things, on the practical application of our Power Choke Tester DPG10 series in the production of Hans von Mangoldt GmbH.<br \/>\nFor historical reasons, the inductance of chokes with sheet metal cores is still often determined by measuring their reactance during production. In this method, the choke is subjected to line current and line voltage, and the reactance and the inductance is calculated based on the RMS values of current and voltage.<br \/>\nHowever, this approach has several significant disadvantages compared to the pulse measurement method. Therefore, Hans von Mangoldt GmbH switched its inductance measurement in production to pulse measurement using the Power Choke Tester DPG10 series.<br \/>\nThis article outlines both the pulse measurement principle and the conventional reactance-based method, highlighting the advantages of pulse measurement.<br \/>\nIn addition, the practical application of the Power Choke Tester DPG10 series at Hans von Mangoldt GmbH in the series production of wound products with sheet metal cores, covering a power range from 1 kVA to over 1 MVA, is presented.<br \/>\nFinally, it is shown how the Power Choke Tester DPG10 series can be integrated into fully automated production lines for mass-produced winding goods using the new InterfaceBox INT1, without having to write own Therefore, we commissioned Prof. Stadler from Coburg University of Applied Sciences to conduct extensive research on measuring the inductance of three-phase chokes using our pulse measurement principle. After extensive FEM simulations and measurements, not only was the high measurement accuracy of our previous algorithm for determining the reactance-equivalent inductance confirmed, but an algorithm for calculating the differential inductance of 3-phase chokes was also developed.<\/p>\n<p>With the new software version 3.7, it is therefore possible to also display the differential inductance of 3-phase chokes. As a result, with low-inductance test objects, most of the measurement voltage is dropped on the test lead rather than on the test object.<br \/>\nOn the other hand, the coupling between the force and sense leads increases with lower inductance of the test object, resulting in an increase in measurement error.<br \/>\nTherefore, we developed test adapters for measuring low-inductance components some time ago. electronics.<br \/>\nThe focus of the article is on measuring small inductance values \u200b\u200bin the nH range with the Power Choke Tester DPG10 series and the new test adapters developed for high-current SMD inductors. There are now two different applications for operating the devices with different user interfaces.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>an application intended for laboratory operation and small series routine testing with the familiar user interface (lab application)<\/li>\n<li>an application optimized for routine testing in mass production with a user interface reduced to the necessary operating elements and a configurable large display (production application)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In the production application, the measurement results are stored in a database. In the laboratory application, the data can either be saved in xml files as before or also in a database. The laboratory application is available both as a 32-bit and as a 64-bit application, the production application only as 64-bit.<\/p>\n<p>The new production application enables very effective and fast routine testing in mass production. When using a scanner, no actions are required by the user apart from contacting the test object. They will be replaced by the more powerful DPG10-2000B and DPG10-2000B\/E models.<\/p>\n<p>The 1500A models were derivatives of the DPG10-1000B. Only the 1000A range was extended to 1500A, while the ranges up to 100A and up to 10A remained unchanged. It was derived from our well-known Power Choke Tester DPG10 series and is available now.<\/p>\n<p>The Pulse Current Source PCS10 series is suitable for inductive and resistive loads. The pulse energy is taken from a capacitor battery and can be up to 2kJ depending on the model, pulse repetition rate and selected pulse voltage. Both the pulse duration and the current can be preselected as criteria for ending the voltage pulse.<\/p>\n<p>The voltage and current are unregulated. When the pulse energy is relatively small compared to the energy stored in the capacitor bank, the pulse voltage is approximately constant.<\/p>\n<p>The pulse duration can be set between 1\u00b5s and 130ms in increments of 500ns. In the case of low-inductance test samples, this means that most of the test voltage drops on the test cables instead of on the test sample. On the other hand, the coupling between Force and Sense lines increases with lower inductance of the test sample, resulting in an increase in the measurement inaccuracy.<\/p>\n<p>That is why we have developed new test adapters for measuring low-inductance components. There is a separate test adapter for each current measuring range of the devices. These three test adapters are available in a set and can be plugged directly into the front panel of the DPG10 devices without a test cable.<br \/>\nThis makes it possible to measure inductance values \u200b\u200bdown to &lt; 100nH if the measurement parameters are optimally choosen.<\/p>\n<p>Regardless of the inductance, the test adapters are ideal for all SMD components that can be soldered directly onto the test adapters. to 10kA and a significantly increased pulse energy up to 15kJ.<\/p>\n<p>The enormously high measuring current, which can rise to 18kA in the event of a short circuit, and the very large pulse energy have made a completely new development with a new circuit topology necessary. For example, to develop a current sensor that can map the slope of currents up to 18kA with current slew rate up to 1000A\/\u00b5s and pulse widths from 3\u00b5s to 300ms with very high precision. Despite the extremely large measuring currents and the large pulse energy, we were able to integrate the electronics in a very compact housing of only 47x50x34cm\u00b3 (41kg).<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, the development took longer than planned because the enormous growth in sales over the past two years has repeatedly affected development work. The first device was delivered in Q4\/2019. In the meantime, several devices are successfully in service at well-known customers and have proven themselves in practice. The DGP10-4000B\/F delivers measurement current up to 4000A. At 7500J, pulse energy has tripled as compared to models with option \/E. The device is nevertheless very compact, measuring 3HE and weighing little more than 21 kg (47x50x17cm\u00b3)!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"en-GB\">This equips the device to work with very large inductors into the MVA range. At the same time it is also perfectly suitable for small PCB mounted inductors in the smaller measuring ranges of up to 400A and up to 40A. It thus covers an enormous spectrum of inductive components. Especially storage capacity had become inadequate for a while. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"en-GB\">The move occurred within the same commercial complex, so that our address and all contact data have remained unchanged. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"en-GB\">The new domicile was given a full makeover and was partitioned and equipped according to our requirements (such as ESD flooring and special illumination). The available floor space has almost doubled as a result.
