Solderless test adapters for low inductance SMD components
The measurement of small inductance values with the Power Choke Tester DPG10/20 series is limited to values greater than approximately 1-3 µH when using test cables.
This is partly due to the inductance of the test cables, which, despite their low-inductance design, is in the range of 0.7-1.5 µH. As a result, with low-inductance test objects, most of the measurement voltage is dropped on the test lead rather than on the test object.
On the other hand, the coupling between the force and sense leads increases with lower inductance of the test object, resulting in an increase in measurement error.
Therefore, we developed test adapters for measuring low-inductance components some time ago. SMD components and also through-hole components can be soldered directly onto these MAB1, MAB2, and MAB3 test adapters, which are then plugged directly into the sockets on the front panel.
The disadvantage is that the components must be soldered. That’s why we’ve now developed solderless test adapters for SMD components. These allow SMD components with a length between 6 and 25 mm and a width between 6 and 25 mm to be contacted. They are fixed by a spring-loaded clamp.
A separate test adapter is available for each current measurement range (MAB1SMD, MAB2SMD, and MAB3SMD). With these adapters, inductance values down to 50-100 nH can be reproducibly measured if the measurement parameters are optimally selected.
Test adapter for low-inductance and SMD components
With the Power Choke Tester DPG10 series, the measurement of small inductance values is limited to values greater than approx. 1-3µH due to the parasitic properties of measuring cables.
That is why we offer special test adapters for the measurement of low-inductance components for the DPG10 B series, which can be plugged directly into the front panel of the devices. There is a separate test adapter for each current range of the devices. This makes it possible to measure inductance values down to < 100nH if the measurement parameters are optimally selected.
Regardless of the inductance, the test adapters are ideal for all SMD components that can be soldered directly onto the test adapters. However, they can also be used for PCB mounted THD components.

InterfaceBox for DPG10/20 devices
With the help of our new InterfaceBox INT1, inductance measurement is possible in a fully automated test line without having to write your own software to control the Power Choke Tester DPG10.
Our InterfaceBox INT1 provides the interface between our PC software and a fully automated test line. 3 universal inputs and 5 universal outputs enable interaction with the test line’s PLC. For example, the PLC can tell the DPG10 software when a new test object has been contacted and the DPG10 software can tell the PLC that a measurement is in progress, when the measurement is finished and whether the test object has passed the test. The test object can then be ejected accordingly. Warning lights, horns or foot switches can also be connected.
